Honduran Coffee: The Hidden Gem You Must Explore
Honduras has long been known for its lush mountains, vibrant culture, and rich biodiversity—but did you know it’s also one of the top coffee producers in the world? Despite being a quiet player in the specialty coffee scene for years, Honduras has rapidly emerged as a go-to origin for those who seek quality, complexity, and sustainability in their cup.
Let’s explore what makes Honduran coffee a hidden gem—and why it’s time Canadians started paying more attention to it.

Honduras: A Rising Star in Global Coffee Production
With over 6 million bags of coffee produced annually, Honduras is the largest coffee producer in Central America and fifth in the world by volume. While historically, much of its production was sold as generic Central American blends, in recent years, Honduran coffee has gained recognition globally—particularly in the specialty coffee world.
The country’s mountainous terrain, rich volcanic soil, and ideal microclimates provide perfect growing conditions for Arabica varieties, resulting in coffees with bright acidity, fruit-forward profiles, and surprising depth.

A Closer Look at Finca Catalán – Our Honduran Highlight
At Roasters Co., we’re proud to source our Honduran coffees from Finca Catalán, located in the Ocotepeque region, near the country’s western border. This high-altitude farm sits 1,650 metres above sea level, cultivating Catuai, Parainema, and Obata varieties.
We currently offer two unique micro-lots from Finca Catalán:
☕ Honey Process – Expect citrus and wine-like notes, a sweet, fruity aroma, and a smooth, medium roast profile.
☕ Natural Process – This one’s rich in fruit-in-syrup and vino character, with a delightful sugar cane and honey banana aroma.
These flavour-packed profiles represent the vibrancy and innovation coming out of Honduras today.
